  • Each day 12 children die from gun violence in America. An additional 32 are shot and injured.
  • Guns are the leading cause of death among American children and teens. 1 out of 10 gun-related deaths are age 19 or younger.

  • 15.08% of youth (age 12-17) report suffering from at least one major depressive episode (MDE) in the past year.
  • Childhood depression is more likely to persist into adulthood if gone untreated.
  • The number of youths experiencing MDE increased by 306,000 (1.24%) from last year's dataset
  • For children with anxiety, more than 1 in 3 also had behavior problems (37.9%)
  • 1 in 3 also had depression (32.3%).
  • For children with behavior problems, more than 1 in 3 also had anxiety (36.6%)
  • 1 in 5 also had depression (20.3%).

Additional Information:

  • In 2020, there were an estimated 52.9 million adults aged 18 or older in the United States with AMI. This number represented 21.0% of all U.S. adults.
  • The prevalence of AMI is higher among females (25.8%) than males (15.8%).
  • Young adults aged 18-25 years had the highest prevalence of AMI (30.6%) compared to adults aged 26-49 years (25.3%) and aged 50 and older (14.5%).
  • The prevalence of AMI was highest among the adults reporting two or more races (35.8%), followed by White adults (22.6%).
